Confidence methodology

Every figure we publish carries its source and a confidence level. This is how to read them.

Three confidence levels

Three confidence levels Every figure we publish carries its source and a confidence level. This is how to read them. High confidence: A rule or measured official data. Medium confidence: A range, a single source or our own conversion. Low confidence: A scenario or projection, always with a warning. High A rule or measured officialdata. Medium A range, a single source orour own conversion. Low A scenario or projection, always with a warning.
high
A rule or measured official data. A preliminary official figure also counts, and the text says it is preliminary.
medium
A range, data from a single source, or a conversion the study itself makes.
low
A scenario or a projection from the study. It always carries an explicit warning, in the profile and in the text.

Where each figure comes from

Every figure comes from the current executive summary of its study.

Its source is declared as study, chapter and line. That way each figure traces back to its row.

Before publishing, every figure is audited against that summary. If a chapter contradicts it, the summary prevails.

If the summary contradicts itself, the figure stays out of the text.

Images are checked too

Every image with figures is compared against the text before it is published. Each number and each visible word is checked, and the check is recorded.
